Zircons from a quartzo-feldspathic (metasedimentary) gneiss in the Dabie ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) (coe- site ± diamond) metamorphic terrane were dated using SHRIMP. The zircons are entirely metamorphic in origin or consist of inherited structural cores and metamorphic overgrowths. Cathodoluminescence imaging was used to document the full extent of inheritance. The metamorphic zircon yielded a weighted 206~Pb/238~U age of 222.6 ±5.0 Ma, which is in good agreement with several reported Sm-Nd garnet-clinopyroxene and 39~Ar/40~Ar ages (230±31 and 224±20 Ma) of on adjacent eclogites.
